Regarding the problem of film removal during Low-E hollow processing
Regarding the problem of film removal during Low-E hollow processing
Offline Low-E glass is increasingly being used in residential buildings. When processing offline Low-E insulating glass, why is it necessary to remove the film from the glass where the adhesive is to be applied?
Insulating glass is sealed with two layers of sealant. The first layer is butyl sealant, which mainly ensures the gas barrier inside and outside the hollow cavity, which is what we often call "air tightness"; the second layer is generally silicone sealant or silicone structural sealant, which has a fixed sealing effect. Generally, the depth of the glue used will be appropriately increased or decreased according to the size of the glass panel.
Offline Low-E coating is achieved through vacuum magnetic sputtering. The film contains metallic silver, which readily oxidizes with sulfides in the air under normal conditions. To prevent oxidation from the glass edges, the glass must be de-filmed during the construction of insulating glass. Longda Abrasives recommends using its N-series de-filming wheels, which offer strong grinding force and high de-filming efficiency, achieving a clean, one-pass de-filming effect.
In the past, there were three methods for removing the film from Low-E glass: "removing the film on the cutting machine", "removing the film on the edge grinding machine", and removing the film at the end of the hollow upper sheet. The following describes the advantages and disadvantages of each process.
1. Film Removal on the Cutting Machine
During glass cutting, film removal is performed simultaneously on glass requiring insulating layers. Advantages: Source control allows for effective data management and saves costs for subsequent film removal equipment. Disadvantages: Pre-processing time and costs are high for orders of edge-grinded glass and special specifications. Product images are available in the product center of our website.
2. Film Rmovel on the Edging Machine
Deglazing the glass on a high-speed double-sided grinding machine has advantages: high efficiency and eliminates the need for subsequent deglazing equipment. Disadvantages: Deglazing the glass before it is tempered, causing the edges of the Low-E glass to heat up during tempering, resulting in excessive stress, deformation, and potential for spontaneous explosion. Product images are available in the product center of our website.
3. Film Removal at the Top Sheet of the Insulating Glass
De-filming the glass during the insulated glass installation process has the following advantages: it prevents overheating of the glass edges, which better meets production requirements. However, it requires additional film removal equipment or personnel. Product images can be viewed in the product center of our website.
In summary, de-filming of Low-E insulating glass is essential and is a critical process for ensuring the glass's service life. We recommend de-filming the top section of the insulated glass at the front.
