Laminated Glass
Laminated glass is a composite glass product made of two or more glass sheets with one or more layers of organic polymer interlayer sandwiched between them. After special pre-pressing under elevated temperature and high-temperature, high-pressure processing, the glass sheets and interlayer are permanently bonded into an integrated unit. Simply put, it is like fitting glass with a tough protective layer.
Why is laminated glass classified as safety glass?
• Low risk of injury upon breakage: When laminated glass is impacted by external force, broken glass fragments will be firmly adhered to the interlayer instead of scattering everywhere, greatly lowering the risk of bodily harm. The interlayer acts like a net holding shattered glass in place.
• Excellent impact resistance: The interlayer endows laminated glass with strong resistance against external forces, enabling it to withstand impacts such as typhoons and accidental collisions.
• Anti-theft performance: Laminated glass is not easy to break completely. Even if cracks form on the surface, the glass remains largely intact, raising barriers against burglary.
Common Types of Interlayers for Laminated Glass
• PVB Interlayer: The most widely used interlayer material. It features outstanding transparency, flexibility and adhesive strength, alongside reliable weather resistance to adapt to varied temperature and humidity conditions. It is extensively adopted in architectural glazing and automotive glass.
• EVA Interlayer: It comes with relatively low costs and simple processing procedures. It is applied in scenarios with moderate performance requirements, such as indoor decorative glass, yet its general application scope is limited.
• SGP Interlayer: It boasts higher mechanical strength and adhesive capacity than PVB. It delivers superior safety and mechanical performance for laminated glass, making it the preferred choice for high-safety architectural curtain walls. For instance, SGP interlayers are adopted for typhoon-resistant glass.

• UV protection: It absorbs ultraviolet radiation and slows down fading and ageing of indoor furniture, carpets, artworks and other furnishings.
